Another Busy Week

Well it was another busy week here in doxie land. Lots of moves, lots of meet & greets and some of our pups found their furever homes! Our rescue continues to grow, and with that growth, we are able to help so many more dogs out of tough situations. We've been working hard on improving our internal structure and lines of communication, so that we can better mobilize to pull dogs out of bad situations. The new communication structure was put to the test this week when we learned about Piper.

Piper was in a tough situation. She was living in a hotel and about to become homeless, as her guardian was soon to be admitted to the hospital. We put up a call to action on Facebook. Very quickly the offers to help started pouring in. Because of our loyal supporters, we were able to mobilize and get Piper to safety. Piper is in the process of being evaluated, and she has multiple medical issues. We will have more information in the upcoming week, so be sure to stay tuned for more information.

Our other inbound pup this week is Brandy. Her Mom had to go to assisted living. She has lost her very favorite person in the world. Mom provided the best she could for her, but her vet missed a lot. She has a horrible skin infection and painful cysts. We had her at our General Care Vets, 4PAWS Animal Hospital, and they tell us it will take weeks of care and love to get her back on the right track. Well, no problem Brandy; DRBC is here for you.

Want to welcome Piper and Brandy to the family in a special way? Follow the link and help them get a new collar, harness and tag. Nothing like a new set of things to begin a new life. Hope you can help Gang!

SMILE OF THE WEEK

Here at the rescue, we often get questions on what makes the best treat for dogs. Nothing in the food aisle, that's for sure! Check out the infographic to discover some tasty treats that your pups just might love!

We have exciting news on little Hailey! She joined DRBC over a year ago, and she's blind due to an underdeveloped eye. She has found a furever family who will give her extra special love forever and ever! We are so happy for both her and them. Congratulations Hailey!

Great news for little Gracie! She has found her forever home! We are so happy for this little one. She had an awfully tough start in an Alabama puppy mill, but will never look back at those days again. Yeah Gracie; we love ya!

And last but not least, is Peanut! Congratulations Peanut, you are so very loved and we wish you the best in your new furever home! Please give your best wishes to all these pups who will never be alone again!

Last but not least, we have two special Cuties of the Week. Both cuties have crossed the rainbow bridge, and so we are honoring them with this very special award. Godspeed little cuties. Tell our pack we say hello and think of them often.

Shoe Drive in Full Swing

Welcome to this week's edition of the Doxie Blog! Our big story of the week is our Shoe Drive. We are conducting a shoe collection drive March 15th through May 15th, 2016 to raise money for our medically needy dachshunds. Our organization will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods! We can't miss!

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families.

We are very excited about the shoe drive and knowing that Spring cleaning is right around the corner for everyone, we know this should be a win-win for doxies in need and people in impoverished nations. We welcome you to pack up those old shoes, sneakers, sandals, boots and clogs and get them to a DRBC drop spot in the DRBC region. We currently have over 400 pairs towards our goal of 2500. Think about donating today! Thanks for helping!!

Pink Paw Update - Arthur - Our other big news of the week is Arthur's 25th birthday. Wow Arthur!!! Arthur is a Grandpaws foster here at DRBC. Friday was the big day, and he enjoyed a big celebration with his foster family. Arthur is doing really well. He's still getting into mischief in true doxie style, and loves to keep his foster family on their toes. Happy birthday Arthur, we love ya buddy!

Mint Paw Update - Coco - It is hard to believe that Coco is able to smile after all she has been through. This beautiful little doxie mix has been neglected and tormented, yet she remains loving and hopeful for a better tomorrow. What a sweetie. Well she is safe now and will soon be ready to find her new forever home.Want to welcome CoCo to the family in a special way? Follow the link and help her get a new collar, harness and tag. Nothing like a new set of things to begin a new life. Hope you can help Gang!

Foundation Update - Precious - You may remember little Precious as the most recent doxie that DRBC helped recover from IVDD. She and her mom were attacked this week while out walking, by a large dog with no collar and no leash. While she is safe and healing, she sure took a beating. Look closely at her chest you will see the bruising and her eye was hit as well. No surgery fortunately, but her Mom was left with an outstanding vet bill, and lost the end of her own finger as well. Can you help us to help them? It is all so distressing. Even if her Mom sues, it is unlikely that the individual with the dog has the funds to pay. Please think about helping out a little today. Just follow this link to donate. Hang in there Precious [and Mom]. We love ya.

SMILE OF THE WEEK

Look who is checking in to say hi...it is Woobie. First and most importantly he wants us to know he is soooo loved and next that he has changed his name to Vito. Way to go Vito! OK Gang, how about a big round of love as Vito enjoys his moment in the sun! Yeah Vito!

Big news for little Osca and Roscoe! They have found their forever home! These two brothers will be staying together and could not be happier! Please help us get them off to a good start with some love and congrats! Yeah Roscoe and Oscar!

Warm Weather Dangers

What a week! It seems like we've had all 4 seasons hit us, and the weather can't figure out if it should be warm or cold. It also seems we can't catch a break when it comes to dogs in need here at DRBC. We are currently working a pretty serious neglect case, and will update you just as soon as we have more information.

The warm weather has begun to appear slowly but surely, and with it comes the concern about many diseases. Here at the rescue we are getting reports of upset tummy from our fosters. Our doxies are lucky; they have been vaccinated against the deadly leptospirosis virus, so no worries there. Many doxie owners believe that doxie cannot get lepto, but that is not the case. Please ask your veterinarian to administer this vaccine separately from all others by 2 weeks. This could save your dog's life. Please like and help spread the word; you never know who it may help.

We also want to share with you this helpful chart of plants that are toxic to pets. Make sure to keep your furry friends safe as the warmer weather approaches!

Mint Paw Update - Things have not gone right for Sam and Jeter lately. They moved north from Florida and barely had time to unpack when their Dad passed away. Left with no one and nowhere to go, an emergency pull got them to DRBC this week. These loving brothers will be safe now and we ask that you send them you love and positive vibes.

Want to welcome Sam and Jeter to the family in a special way? Follow the link and help them get a new collar, harness and tag. Nothing like a new set of things to begin a new life. Hope you can help Gang!

SMILE OF THE WEEK

Look who is checking in this week, it's Hammy! Hammy is one of our GrandPaws puppers. This little guy is a real love and here he is having a big cuddle with his favorite blanket!

You can learn more about our GrandPaws program by following the link! Click here to learn more about GrandPaws!

It is with heavy hearts that we share 2 Rainbow Paw Updates this week. We are reminded constantly here at DRBC, that death is a fact of life. Today we share the sad news of Toby's passing. This young man was a victim of a secondary poisoning. A neighbor was trying to eliminate a feral cat colony and distributed poisoned cat food. Not all of it was cleaned up and Toby unfortunately ingested some. His family is devastated. A private memorial service was held Friday for Toby at Hamilton Pet Meadow. Godspeed Toby; know you went with so much love.

We also share the news of Jeffery's passing. You may remember us frantically searching for him, but coming up empty handed. His body was found this week in the pond where he died. We are all devastated here at DRBC. This little boy that touched our hearts is gone. Jeffery, we know that you are no longer wobbling as you walk, but are now running free at the bridge.

Like we said earlier, what a week. Rescuing has its ups and downs, but there is no greater joy than helping these pups so desperately in need of love.

On that note, we have big news on Bob. Break out the cheers and smiles...Bob has found his forever home!!! This little guy came to us from a shelter in a pretty bad way. You may remember how sad he looked when he came to DRBC! Back up and going now, he has found a place to be loved forever. Hooray Bob!

Next, we have a Blue Paw update from Navy! He is loving life and having fun with his new family. Go Navy! Glad to hear from you!

Have you ever considered fostering? Here at DRBC we have a strong, close knit group of foster families who support each other, while the rescue supports them. Would you like to join that family? We would love to get to know you! Please check out our foster application at http://www.doxierescue.com/Foster_Application.html

This week, we've chosen a very special Cutie of the Week. Meet Isabella! She had to undergo pretty extensive surgery for a mast cell tumor. She is on the mend today, but needs your prayers and well wishes. Please send her some healing thoughts for her recovery.

CUTIE OF THE WEEK

That wraps up this week's Doxie Blog. As always, stay tuned to our Facebook page for breaking news and up to the minute posts and information. See you next week Gang!

Spring has Sprung!

Spring has sprung here in doxie land! All week our feeds have been filled with pictures of pups outside enjoying the fresh air and we couldn't be more thrilled for the warmer weather. This week also wrapped up our Dealing a Better Hand Playing Card Contest. We would like to say thank you to everyone who participated, whether as an entrant or a voter. Your vote dollars will go a long way towards helping our medical fund. Remember, no amount is too small! Congratulations are in order to all the dogs who participated, with special recognition going to Rupee, who claimed the Grand Prize! Rupee will be featured on a face card of their choice. Yeah Rupee!

This week we have a Mint Paw Alert for Hoagie. Hoagie was found wandering and has clearly been neglected. His body was infested with fleas and his beautiful long hair coat is almost gone. He is inbound to us here at DRBC and we will do everything we can to restore him physically and emotionally. Please share and send a prayer or positive vibe to Hoagie today. Hang on Hoagie; we are coming!

We just love when our alums check in, and this week we have 2 Blue Paw Updates! Trixie is checking in today to say hi. She is having a great life and reports that she is enjoying her snuggles and lovins.
💙

When Emma came to DRBC she had no hair. Her skin was covered in an infection and she was underweight. Thanks to the support of her foster family, Emma has come full circle. This beautiful long haired dapple is so happy and loved now. She never left her foster home and is a joy to all that meet her. Yeah Emma!

💙

We have a special foster request this week. Anna, Percy and Wendy have been together forever. Their Mom had cancer and had to give them up. She made only one request: keep them together. We are trying our best behind the scenes to do just that, but with foster space at a premium, we may not be able to for much longer. This special trio is up for adoption, but they need a place to call home for the short term. They are wonderfully loving.

If you can open your heart and your home for just a little while, we need you! Just follow the link below and join the team that makes a difference!!

Out of our region? Please share to help this family stay together.
