Last Call for Playing Card Contest!

Welcome to this week's edition of The Doxie Blog! We begin our week working a hoarding case, unfortunately. We also are asking your prayers for little Petey. Petey came to use with severe dehydration and abdominal pain. We will have more updates on Petey soon, but in the meantime, we ask for your prayers and good vibes for this sweet little Red Paw Case.

Despite the Red Paw cases we are working, we have had lots of good news here in the DRBC Camp this week as Gretel, one of our diabetic doxies, makes positive progress. She is home and is up and walking around, best of all her appetite is fantastic and her blood sugar numbers are stable!! Even the sore on her back has begun to show signs of improvement! Thanks to all of your support, her fundraising goal has been met!! Thanks so much Gang!

Puppy Love is in the Air!

Hello everyone! Welcome to this week's edition of The Doxie Blog! Since we didn't have a post last week, we have a lot to catch up on. We hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day, filled with puppy kisses and doggie snuggles. Here in DRBC land we were full of love for all of our doxies!

First off, we want to give you an Orange Paw Update on our doxie with the mammary tumors, Kyla. Little Kyla finally got the surgery that she so very desperately needed. The surgery was long and complicated, but she is now home and on the mend. Kayla still needs you! We are only about 1/2 of the way towards the fundraising goal. We had hoped we could wait until the full amount was reached, but we always want to do the right thing, and this time, it was making the move into emergency surgery. Can you lend a hand in her recovery? Please follow the link to donate: https://www.youcaring.com/kyla

We have a Red Paw Update for Gretel. This week was a close call for little Gretel. We take care of so many seniors that will never find forever homes here at DRBC and Gretel is one of them. Sweet, quiet and a complete love, Gretel is a favorite of everyone she meets.

Gretel has a big problem: she is an unstable diabetic. On any given day, a close eye is kept, a special diet is followed and Gretel is like any other senior, but last night something changed. Gretel refused to eat and began shaking. Her blood glucose number looked good, but a sore formed on her back from almost nowhere. It was of to NorthStar VETS for this little girl.

You may not know it, but February is the worst month of the year for our rescue. Donations are down and turn-in’s are up. Still we could not question our decision to get this little girl the help she needed. An ER visit, blood work and lots of meds later, Gretel is eating. We are taking a conservative route and are hoping the sore is a diabetic issue and not cancer.

Today Gretel is hoping you will lend a hand in her treatment. The $650 covers all her needs at NorthStar: blood work, anti-nausea medications, antibiotics and care. Tell this old girl she is still worth it as only the DRBC Gang can! Remember, age is not a disease, but her diabetes is a harsh reality.

Remember, generous support is desperately needed and greatly appreciated.  Like many non-profit organizations DRBC is a 501[c][3] operated solely by volunteers.  We have been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, re-homing and educating families about this breed for over 32 years.  We welcome and need your benevolent tax-deductible donation.  Please, help us to help them.

We welcome you to stay tuned for updates.  Until then, Gretel, all the rescue doxies and the DRBC Team thank you.

Speaking of diabetics, we have a Purple Paw update on Lily! She wanted to reach out to everyone and tell you that she is doing great! Many thanks to our buddies at NorthStar VETS for getting her through her diabetic crisis. It was a close one, but today she is stable and is loving life with her medical foster family! Thank you for all your support, she is now doing GREAT!

We also have a Purple Paw update on Andy & Barney, the 2 boys left outside in the snow after their owner passed away. These boys are survivors, and are starting to enjoy life again. By the way, Andy and Barney are looking for a long term foster to help them get back on their feet. Interested in a couple playful snuggle buddies? As we mentioned earlier, it's been a tough week with inbound pups, and we've been really busy making sure they are all safe, warm and settled. We've moved over 20 doxies these past 2 weekends. Sadly, several of them had been found wandering or had been purposefully left out in the elements.

Andy and Barney's owner passed away just weeks before the storm. These older guys were out out in a corner of the yard and managed to survive the recent blizzard.

Dexter and Dee Dee were also inbound this week. Dexter and Dee Dee almost didn't make it. They were dumped due to a bitter divorce. Frightened and in need of vet care, they are now part of the DRBC family. We will get them the care they need and find them thier forever home.

Look at those pupper smiles!

Bob was found wandering after the most recent blizzard. Posters were hung and the authorities were contacted, but no one was looking for Bob. The folks that scooped him up from a busy road could not keep him. He had nowhere to go. Well Bob is here at DRBC now. Safe, safe, safe!

This week, we have a Red Paw Update this week on Kyla. We hate emergencies. We see so many of them. This past weekend we took in a little one in very bad shape. She has blood leaking from her teats. We need to move quickly and are asking your help today to get her the surgery that will remove the tumors causing the issue.   It breaks our hearts. She is so sweet and loving. She needs this second chance.

We are reaching out today to ask for your support in our effort to save Kyla. The months of neglect will take a tremendous about of medical skill and time to reverse.   She requires blood work, ultrasound and surgery ASAP. It does not sound like much, but we have been given an estimate of $2,225. It is a lot and we cannot do it without your help.

Please help us to help Kyla. We know she can make it back and we know someone will fall in love with this little one, despite her issues, but today that seems like a far off goal. Please send her that all-important message of love. We desperately need your donations. Follow this link to join Team Kyla and donate today!

SMILE OF THE WEEK

We 2 Gold Paw Alerts this week. First, it's exciting news for Chloe & Lucy. These two little ones waited 11 months for the right family to meet them, but today they are home forever and being loved. Next up, it took many months for Grendy to beat his heartworm disease, but he was no sooner cleared by our vet team when he found his forever home! We are so excited to see this little boy happy at last! Please join us in congratulating these pups on finding their furever homes!
