Counting Down to the New Year

Welcome to this week's edition of the Doxie Blog! Our big news of the week is getting little Tracie settled in here at DRBC. Tracie was sent to our vet specialists right away, and after the holidays she will be facing a series of surgeries to remove her mammary tumors. She is now in her medical foster home resting and gaining strength for her first surgery. Tracie was able to spend her Christmas warm and snuggled, and will know love for the rest of her days. Can you help support Tracie's care? Just follow this link and make a tax deductible donation today!

Chico

Our big Pupdate for the week is Chico! Chico is our IVDD foundation doxie who we recently held a fundraiser for. Thanks to his supporters, Chico is zooming around in his new custom wheels from K9 Carts West! It didn't take him long to pick out a spot on the comforter and figure out how to crawl out of the wheels. Chico's 4 wheel cart will give him stability as he gets back on his feet; it is part of his recovery program. He will walk again. A huge thanks to all who donated!

We have some exciting news on one of the puppies recently pulled by DRBC. Kate, the smallest pup has found her forever home! We are so thrilled. Kate joins her brothers Will and George on the Gold Paw list for 2015.

Happy Pawlidays!

Welcome to this weeks edition of The Doxie Blog! This week we've been busy with December dumps, drop offs and surrenders unfortunately. It breaks our hearts that this is one of the busiest times of the year for turn ins. This week, we've had 2 inbounds, Tracie and Cody.
Tracie comes to DRBC
Cody comes to DRBC

Tracie was dumped and found as a stray. It's pretty clear she was used as a breeding dog and she has mammary tumors. Cody was pulled from a shelter. He is obese and having spinal issues. We're also working on an elderly neglected inbound named Bingo. We still need fosters for Tracie and Bingo, so please help get the word out! Fostering saves lives!

In happier news, the DRBC 2016 Cutie Pie calendars have shipped, and they look GREAT! Here's a sneak peek!

We still have calendars available! You can order yours today at The Doxie Boutique! Get your order in now and start the New Year off right!
This week, we got a pupdate from Jesse & Joey! We love to hear from our adopted puppers and when it comes to these two, we are especially thrilled. These two hold the record of having waited longest for a home - 2 years. We could easily have placed them but we refused to split the two. Today they are happy and loving life. Thanks for checking in!
DRBC alums Jessie and Joey check in
DRBC's Bran has found a forever home.Bran goes to his forever home!

We also have a pupdate on Chico, the foundation IVDD doxie who we asked support for last week. We're thrilled to announce that his campaign is fully funded! We will be ordering him a cart soon and he will continue to receive medical treatment for his IVDD.

We have 2 puppers who met their forever families this week. Both Bran and Will have gone home. We're so thrilled for them! Bran has been with us since August, and Will was one of the puppies from the litter of 4 we took in a few weeks ago. Congratulations Bran and Will!

Our last pupdate for the week is on a sad note. We have a rainbow paw for one of our recent placements, Lucy. Little Lucy was attacked by a larger dog and killed. Her family is heartbroken as are we all here at DRBC. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family as they grieve.

DRBC's Emmy Lou wishes you a happy holiday season!Emmy Lou wishes you a happy holiday season!

We have a happy holiday wish from one of our GrandPaws [Sanctuary] puppers! Many of you may remember Emmy Lou. Blind and abandoned, Emmy Lou came to DRBC frightened and thin. Today she is thriving and is in the holiday spirit.

Each year at DRBC we rescue and treat hundreds of dachshunds.  Some have a broken heart, some have suffered abuse or neglect and some come to us with long term medical needs that may prevent their placement.

The DRBC veterinary support hospitals are always there to help.  All dogs are seen by the best that general care veterinary support can provide, receiving exams, spays, neuters, dental surgeries, vaccinations, blood work and much, much more.  A percentage of the dogs we rescue will go on to see veterinary specialists.  Every option is examined and an individual recovery and rehabilitation plan is made.  That's a lot of medicine and a lot of love.

Please join our effort.  You can help make a difference to one of these special doxies. Their medical care is supported by donations like yours.  Won't you give so others can live?

Our doxie tidbit for the week is a note on invisible fences. DRBC feels strongly that you should always accompany your pupper outside. This week we saw in the news a story of a dog that was grabbed by a predator and carried away. The dog fought off the attacker, however could not get back home in its injured state because the shock of the invisible boundary was keeping it from coming into the yard. Luckily the family found the pup just in time, but please always remember, an invisible fence does not keep predators out, however it may keep your dog from coming home if they escape!

Last but not least, we have our Cutie of the Week and Smile of the Week!
Cutie of the Week
Meet our Cutie of the Week, Abby! We have a soft spot in our hearts for the older doxies and Abby just touched that spot! What a doll!

We would like to take a moment to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season filled with warmth, giving and joy. And of course let's not forget, lots of Doxie Kisses! See you next week!

Foster Homes Still Needed

Welcome to this week's edition of the Doxie Blog! This week, our annual Holiday Auction wrapped up, and team DRBC came together Friday to ship out the winner's items. We hope everyone had a fun time bidding, and as always, the donations will go to the best cause, saving these
precious dogs' lives.

If you missed the auction this year, we still have some items for sale in the Doxie Boutique!

Our highest priority this holiday season is finding foster homes. This holiday season will see an upswing in our turn-in rate and the influx has begun. Many will die without our help. It is that simple. Can you open your heart and your home for a few days or a few weeks to these needy doxies?

Picture
Just this week, sweet Rosie's arrival to DRBC was delayed due to lack of foster space. You may remember from last week's post; Rosie is the little IVDD doxie who will come to DRBC for rehabilitation. We need YOU! DRBC is a region rescue operating in DE, NJ, Eastern PA and Lower NY. Please follow this link if you can help us help them:

http://doxierescue.com/Foster_Care.html

While it may be a short while until we can get Rosie here, we were able to save Pop-Pop. He was used as a bait dog. Starved with many cuts and bruises, he is now SAFE and will heal with time and love.

Picture
We also want to give a pupdate on little Chico, the IVDD foundation doxie. The Orange Paw is up for him. He has had the catheter placed and we have averted bladder disaster with him. He still needs your help to cover the vet bill on this one. Please think about donating to help him out. It is so easy, just follow this link.https://www.youcaring.com/chico-the-ivdd-dachshund-483712

Please like and share with friends too; that helps more than you know. We would love to exceed the cost on this one as we will be ordering a 4 wheel cart for him shortly to help him in his recovery. Come on Gang, please lend a hand!

Our Doxie Tidbit for the week is about Poisonous Holiday Plants. What a great time of the year to enjoy friends and family! Many will unknowingly bring items that could hurt your pets. Did you know that Christmas Trees are considered mildly toxic? Please check out this article and make you home safer for them.

Red Paw Update - Chico

Picture
Every year here at DRBC we rescue and rehabilitate doxies with IVDD [Intervertebral Disc Disease]. It is a journey we are all too familiar with as this disease strikes so many doxies. Chico is one of these doxies. He joined DRBC when his Mom could not care for him as her own health was in jeopardy. We thought it would be a typical recovery case and then we realized that Chico is having a great deal of trouble urinating.
Downed doxies cannot always realize that the are or are not emptying their bladder, but in Chico’s case it has been determined that the muscle controlling bladder release his in spam and would not let us express his urine. It was a real crisis. Medications were prescribed, but they are not working well enough. Chico needed a catheter placed so he can empty. It is very serious.
As we do so often, we rushed this little one to the hospital to help him get the care he needs. Today we are asking for your support of Chico. His bright eyes and fighting spirit have stolen our hearts and we know we need to make a difference for him.
Sadly, great veterinary care comes at a price. The deposit for his admittance was $350. The estimate indicated that the total cost could reach $750. Caring always comes at a cost. Today, we are hoping that you will have a dollar or two to throw Chico’s way; he needs your help.
Please stop, take a minute and help us to help him.

PUPDATES

PictureHolly boarding her flight

We have had a busy few weeks with our DRBC team. We had quite a bit of excitement when our friends at Furever Dachshund Rescue asked for help with a large group of rescued doxies. When the dust settled from the pull, they asked us to give Holly the special help she needs. You see, Holly has IVDD. In the background is Holly waiting to board her Pilots and Paws flight to Philly!

Here is Holly, safe and sound in Philly. Lucas (on the left) was part of the welcome team to help Holly settle in.  We will have more updates on Holly soon, but please consider a donation to her cause.

Please like and share these two and remind everyone that it all begins with a trip to our adoption center at: http://www.doxierescue.com/Adoption.html

PURPLE PAW UPDATE - CHICO ðŸ’œðŸ’œðŸ’œ

We are a little concerned about Chico today. He is still having problems urinating. He received acupuncture yesterday and continues to improve in his responses, but we are having more and more difficulty expressing his bladder. Today we will be going to see Dr Scott Turk at 4PAWS to have a Foley catheter placed in his bladder. We are hoping it will be short term.

BLUE PAW UPDATE - LILY ðŸ’™ðŸ’™ðŸ’™

Look who has popped in to say hello. It is little Lily! You may remember that Lily came to DRBC as part of a cruelty/abuse case. Just a pup herself, she was slated to begin breeding as soon as she went into heat. Thankfully that never happened as the authorities got there in time to save her and 5 of her buddies. Thin, flea and parasite infected we were not sure she would rally, but she has come back in style. Today she is checking in to tell us that life with her forever family is ever so good. She sends all of you a big kiss and hopes you will send her one back by liking, sharing this post and by sending her a shout out. Yeah Lily!

SMILE OF THE WEEK

And who says doxie are not flexible? No way. Check out how Wally changes the rhythm of his bark for his Dad. LOL. We love Wally and hope you do too. Please like, share and enjoy our 'Smile of the Week'.
