Warm Weather Dangers

What a week! It seems like we've had all 4 seasons hit us, and the weather can't figure out if it should be warm or cold. It also seems we can't catch a break when it comes to dogs in need here at DRBC. We are currently working a pretty serious neglect case, and will update you just as soon as we have more information.

The warm weather has begun to appear slowly but surely, and with it comes the concern about many diseases. Here at the rescue we are getting reports of upset tummy from our fosters. Our doxies are lucky; they have been vaccinated against the deadly leptospirosis virus, so no worries there. Many doxie owners believe that doxie cannot get lepto, but that is not the case. Please ask your veterinarian to administer this vaccine separately from all others by 2 weeks. This could save your dog's life. Please like and help spread the word; you never know who it may help.

We also want to share with you this helpful chart of plants that are toxic to pets. Make sure to keep your furry friends safe as the warmer weather approaches!

Mint Paw Update - Things have not gone right for Sam and Jeter lately. They moved north from Florida and barely had time to unpack when their Dad passed away. Left with no one and nowhere to go, an emergency pull got them to DRBC this week. These loving brothers will be safe now and we ask that you send them you love and positive vibes.

Want to welcome Sam and Jeter to the family in a special way? Follow the link and help them get a new collar, harness and tag. Nothing like a new set of things to begin a new life. Hope you can help Gang!

SMILE OF THE WEEK

Look who is checking in this week, it's Hammy! Hammy is one of our GrandPaws puppers. This little guy is a real love and here he is having a big cuddle with his favorite blanket!

It is with heavy hearts that we share 2 Rainbow Paw Updates this week. We are reminded constantly here at DRBC, that death is a fact of life. Today we share the sad news of Toby's passing. This young man was a victim of a secondary poisoning. A neighbor was trying to eliminate a feral cat colony and distributed poisoned cat food. Not all of it was cleaned up and Toby unfortunately ingested some. His family is devastated. A private memorial service was held Friday for Toby at Hamilton Pet Meadow. Godspeed Toby; know you went with so much love.

We also share the news of Jeffery's passing. You may remember us frantically searching for him, but coming up empty handed. His body was found this week in the pond where he died. We are all devastated here at DRBC. This little boy that touched our hearts is gone. Jeffery, we know that you are no longer wobbling as you walk, but are now running free at the bridge.

Like we said earlier, what a week. Rescuing has its ups and downs, but there is no greater joy than helping these pups so desperately in need of love.

On that note, we have big news on Bob. Break out the cheers and smiles...Bob has found his forever home!!! This little guy came to us from a shelter in a pretty bad way. You may remember how sad he looked when he came to DRBC! Back up and going now, he has found a place to be loved forever. Hooray Bob!

Next, we have a Blue Paw update from Navy! He is loving life and having fun with his new family. Go Navy! Glad to hear from you!

Have you ever considered fostering? Here at DRBC we have a strong, close knit group of foster families who support each other, while the rescue supports them. Would you like to join that family? We would love to get to know you! Please check out our foster application at http://www.doxierescue.com/Foster_Application.html

This week, we've chosen a very special Cutie of the Week. Meet Isabella! She had to undergo pretty extensive surgery for a mast cell tumor. She is on the mend today, but needs your prayers and well wishes. Please send her some healing thoughts for her recovery.

CUTIE OF THE WEEK

That wraps up this week's Doxie Blog. As always, stay tuned to our Facebook page for breaking news and up to the minute posts and information. See you next week Gang!
